Ming-style horse-face skirt + cross-collar top — this is currently the most popular and practical everyday Hanfu pairing. The horse-face skirt features smooth front and back panels with side pleats, creating an elegant flowing effect when walking. Choose a short cross-collar top tucked into the waist for a neat, attractive look.

Formal Occasion Styling

Chest-high ruqun — suitable for weddings, tea parties, and formal dinners. The top is tied above the chest with a floor-length skirt, paired with wide-sleeved pibo (flowing sash), creating an ethereal look when walking.

Round-collar robe — top choice for men’s formal occasions. Standard Tang Dynasty official attire, paired with futou (black soft cap) and leather belt. Can also be paired with a modern belt today.

Accessories

  • Hair ornaments — hairpins, buyao (dangling ornaments that sway when walking), hair crowns.
  • Shoes — pointed-toe cloth shoes are most authentic, but embroidered cloth shoes work too.
