The Bund, Shanghai

Lijiang Old Town

The cobblestone streets, bridges, and red lanterns of this Naxi old town create a uniquely romantic atmosphere. Browse handmade silver jewelry shops by day, and listen to folk singers at Sifang Square by night. An hour away, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain’s Blue Moon Valley offers crystal-clear pools.

West Lake, Hangzhou

The Broken Bridge on Bai Causeway is famous for the love legend of Lady White Snake — most beautiful when winter snow half-melts. Rent a hand-rowed boat to drift across the lake, or cycle the six bridges of Su Causeway with weeping willows on both sides. The evening “Impression West Lake” show blends light, music, and water.

Gulangyu Island, Xiamen

This car-free island is filled with colonial villas and bougainvillea. A 10-minute ferry ride away, spend an afternoon in the island’s cafés, or climb Sunlight Rock for panoramic bay views. The island’s Organ Museum is the largest of its kind in Asia.

Tips: Valentine’s period is peak season — book hotels at least two weeks ahead. Guesthouses in Lijiang and Gulangyu sell out fast.
